TMI Tuesday #129 (The Expensive Things I Regret Buying)

Expensive Things

Today’s TMI is brought to us by Theresaly520, Summerhill Lane, and the rest of my patrons. I can’t do this without you guys. There are no expensive things in this world that could compare to the love and support you give to me. I’m blessed, so, thank you!

If you want to sponsor my future posts, please check out my Patreon. As you know, I’m currently looking for work – so, your support is very much appreciated. Speaking of which, I am revamping my Patreon perks. So, if you have any suggestions on how I can add more value, feel free to comment down below.

What is the most expensive thing you have purchased that was not worth the price?

I can’t think of any. There are a few things that I regret buying, but I am very mindful of the things I buy. I imposed a few rules on myself when getting something.

I don’t buy it if:

  • It’s not on sale
  • I can’t afford to buy it twice
  • It exceeds my monthly spending allowance (30% of my total net worth)

As for the item that I regret buying, I recently bought a laptop stand for work. The description on Shopee says it was aluminum, but what I got was made of cheap plastic. It broke before I even got the chance to test it. It’s a good thing that it’s not expensive; I bought it for 100 pesos. Though, I asked the seller for a refund and left a bad review.

Has money ever ruined a relationship for you?

Maybe, I don’t know for sure. But I did get the feeling that an ex broke up with me because I was poor. As I mentioned, I’m not well off. Sure, I manage my finances, but the fact is, I don’t have that much. I have enough to go around and keep the ball rolling.

What is a cheap thing you own that just makes you SO happy?

My copy of Robert Pirsig’s Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. It wasn’t expensive at all. I bought it for 8 pesos at a bargain book sale. The book is life-changing; it changed the way I look at things. It is one of the most memorable purchases I’ve ever made. I also bought a copy of Emerson along with it.

Nope, wasn't expensive at all.
Nope, wasn’t expensive at all.

What is the most toxic quality about you?

The common criticism I get is I tend to raise my walls whenever I’m uncertain or hurt. Despite being exceptional at speaking my mind, I’m not good at expressing my feelings. I have difficulties trusting people, and I tend to carry everything over my shoulders. If that isn’t toxic enough, I hate asking for help, and I don’t let anybody in. As a result, I can be insufferable.

Why do you not like to talk about money?

The fact that I have to ask you to join my Patreon. I hate that I have to ask for help, and if I got other places to go and people to ask, I wouldn’t do this. The best thing I can do is offer something that could improve your lives or, at the very least, entertain you. If you have any suggestions for what sort of perks interest you, please comment down below. I would love to hear all about it.

Bonus: What is the craziest thing you have done for love?

I’ve mentioned this before, but just in case – I became a booty call to one of my exes after our breakup. Yep, I was a booty call, and to be frank, it affected my self-esteem. I love the woman, so I immediately said yes when she tried to reach out for sex. I wasn’t proud of it. I mean, I kept wondering if sex is all I’m ever good at. It happened three more times before I summed up the courage to say no. I’m just thankful that I learned that my self-esteem is too expensive of a price to pay for a casual sex encounter.

  1. Mr A, I do relate so much to putting up walls and I do think that low self-esteem is responsible, almost as though we don’t see ourselves as deserving the help we so desperately need. I don’t have answers, but I do understand it. Big hugs to you my friend.

      1. Hello Mr A! I’m still around, I’m just taking a n-month hiatus to do some SEO work, sort some dead links and do a few other bits and pieces in my home life. I’m fine thank you, how are you?
