Greetings Barbarians! Long days and pleasant nights.
Every man should learn how to do their laundry. There comes a time for any young man to head out on his own and with him is a pile of dirty laundry. There is no moving past it; it is an essential skill that every man should learn.
In case you still do not have the slightest idea on how to do your laundry – fret not, I got you!
Doing the laundry is one of my favorite chores. I find it rewarding and worth your time doing, after all – who would not want fresh socks and underwear. If that is not enough reason to do your laundry, I do not know what is. It is not exactly rocket science, yet it is not as plain as putting dirty clothes on the washer. It requires a degree of meticulousness.
First, how often should you wash your clothes?
Your clothes last much longer if you wash them less. Based on the clothes and how you wear them, you do not need to wash everything after one wear. There are plenty of criteria that could be a factor in, like how sweaty you are or how the garment smells. You can gauge when you need to wash your clothes; here is how often I wash mine.
One Wear
- Undershirts,
- Underwear,
- Socks,
- T-shirts,
- Button-down shirts,
- Polo shirts
Two Wear
- Pants
- Shorts
- Pajamas
Three Wear
- Sweaters
- Hoodies
- Jackets
Four Wear
- Denim
One Week
- Towels
- Pillowcases
Two Weeks
- Bedsheets
- Blankets

How to wash something?
Read the label. It will tell you how to wash, dry, and iron your clothes. You do not need to worry about the symbols. Most labels today spell out the instructions for you. If it tells you to wash with cold water, you do so. If it tells you not to use bleach, then do not. When washing your clothes, the labels are your most reliable friend.
How to sort your clothes?
Remember to read the label, separate light-colored clothes from dark-colored ones. Then separate the light fabrics from heavy ones. Group your clothes according to the wash label.
What water temperature should you use?
Warm for white, cold for colors. But, I will admit that I use cold water for economic reasons. I solely use heated water for gym clothes since heated water is excellent at getting the dirt out. Do not use heated water for colors, and always use cold water to make the color last longer.
What cycle should you use?
Read the label. As long as the washing label tells you otherwise, always use the regular cycle. Always read the label before washing your clothes.
How many clothes should I load in the washer?
Do not cram all your clothes in a single load; it loses the effectiveness of the washer. It is tempting to do so to save time, but avoid doing that. The washer needs room to clean the clothes.
Here is a typical load size:
- Small – fill ⅓ of the wash drum with clothes before adding water
- Medium – fill ½ of the wash drum with clothes before adding water
- Large – file ¾ of the wash drum with clothes before adding water
Detergents are not the same
Powder detergents are cheaper and excellent at removing inorganic dirt. The drawback is they do not dissolve in water easily. Liquid detergents are a bit pricey but exceptional at removing organic stains. They also dissolve faster in water.
To bleach or not to bleach, that is the question?
Bleach, unless you know what you are doing, will ruin your clothes. But if done correctly, it can remove stains and make your whites whiter. It can also disinfect bed sheets and pillowcases. If you are not familiar with bleach, you can skip it. If you decide to use bleach, never pour bleach directly into clothes.
There you have it, that is everything you should know about doing the laundry. It is an important life skill that all men should learn. I do not care for your plans for global control; if your mom still does your laundry, you are not ruling anything. Before you set off changing the world, be sure to fix your bed first – or in this case, do the laundry. I know it is mind-numbing work but believe me when I say that it is also rewarding.
Special thanks to my patrons for making today’s post possible. I could not do it without you; thank you for believing in me. Your continued support means everything to me and this blog. I managed to keep the ball rolling because of you. I hope you enjoy the journey so far. I will never get tired of thanking you; you have my sincerest gratitude. Again thank you for being such a wonderful person.

I enjoyed this post so much! You are so meticulous especially in this regard 😉
Have you taken an MBTI test? I wonder what your results are…

Aw, I never really saw myself as meticulous. Thank you!
I still haven’t taken that test yet. What’s it about? Is it like a personality test?

Yes, it’s like a personality typing… it’s fascinating to see the results and how it’s almost super accurate…
If you compare how you do laundry vs. how I do it… you definitely are meticulous…

It says here that I am ISTJ-T, a logician. I am not really sure what it means. 😂

ISTJ, you share the same typing as Robert De Niro, Denzel and Sigmund Freud 😀
It says that ISTJs tend to be reserved, practical and quiet? They enjoy order in every aspect of their lives (aha! hence the laundry process)

When I saw this, I had to visit. Laughed out loud. I remember the days, stockpiling the laundry basket from the dorm room to wash it at my parent’s house. Now it is the Sunday chore, but brings a sense of relaxation in knowing I am ready to take on the week. Thank you for sharing.

Hahaha! Thank you, Dr!
Yes, I remember my college day. These days, I do my laundry on Saturdays then rest on Sundays. One less thing to worry about the week!
Cheers! 🍸

I dunno how to feel about this HAHA. Since the pandemic I have worn my bras up to 3 days, of course, only when I need to go outside.
Hmmmmmm

Depending on how sweaty you get, I guess. 😅
I’m sweaty, you could mop the floor when I’m in juijitsu class. 😅

ahhhh that’s why! But are you still that sweaty in spite of the cold weather??

Not much on really cold weather, but on regular Philippine days, yes!
