Greeting Barbarians! Long days and pleasant nights!
It is no secret that I have an obsession with books as well as a tremendous work ethic. To be a successful blogger means you have to read as much as you write – there is no way past that. If you are not doing your research or at least keeping yourself in check, then there is not much to your work, right?
Another thing is, you surprisingly have to be stupid if you aspire to succeed in blogging. Because to get somewhere in blogging, you have to devote a large amount of your time. I should know; I am up until three in the morning writing. To top it off, I am facing some financial difficulties, but still – I am following a dream. If that is not what you call stupid, I do not know what is.
“Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams, because every second of the search is a second’s encounter with God and with eternity.”― Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist

Despite being broke, I managed to haul some books last month (did I not tell you I am obsessed). I usually buy books in used book shops because I prefer old books over new ones. Old books have a lot of character to them plus, it is a lot cheaper. Unlike other book lovers, I am not meticulous about the pristineness of my books. I love the creases, the folds, the discoloration of the pages. There is an astonishing beauty and uniqueness that comes with age and imperfection.
NBS, one of the Philippines’ premier bookstores held a warehouse sale. They offered up to 50% off on books that have some slight damage, like some creasing on the spine. I was keen to jump on the chance, 150 pesos for a brand new book with some slight imperfection is an exceptional deal. It is so satisfying that I bought two books.
The Ultimate Side Hustle Book, written by Elana Varon is an uncomplicated book on side hustle ideas. It includes the skills necessary, the equipment needed, possible directions, and approach. The book tells you what it takes to get the job as well as an approximation of how it pays.
As a blogger and a stay-at-home dad, I find this book helpful. I am always on the lookout for ways to make money because blogging does not make much, to be frank. If there is any way to supplement my salary, I would be all over it.
Another thing, people and their work fascinate me. The book inspired me to do a brand-new segment here at the blog called “Whatcha Do For Money, Honey?”. Yes, it is a nod to AC/DC, but it is also where I will interview someone about their jobs. You could expect the first episode of “Whatcha Do For Money, Honey?” in 2021.
The book was so fun to read and quite insightful as well. Ever curious about how much a pet massage therapist makes? The book not just tells you how much, but it also – tells you what it takes to be one. Want to put that degree in Information Technology to great use? Why not try a career as an IT consultant.
I always wanted to be a librarian or a museum curator. Why? Because it is sexy, that is why! Either those or an adult performer! Too bad, the book did not have anything on how to become a pornstar. On a serious note, the book offers a comprehensive insight into what sort of side hustle fits you.
If you are someone struggling to meet both ends or looking to increase your income, this book is for you. It is informative as well as fun; I had a delightful time skimming through the pages.
For 150php, I would consider the book a magnificent find. It is not in perfectly pristine condition, but its content is a goldmine of information. It is simplistic, insightful, and effortless to read – I love it so much, and I recommend it to anyone. Not bad for a book I bought from a warehouse sale!
Another thing, for those who are wondering how much a typical blogger makes.
Now, I am thinking of working as a writing coach. If anyone is curious, hit me up!
I would like to thank my patrons for making today’s post, possible. Thank you for supporting this blog and believing in my vision.
