What Happened in August (2020)

Quick Update: I am very pleased to tell you that I have gathered 52,775 PHP from my little fundraiser. I would like to thank you for your support and understanding during this moment. I am very blessed to have friends like you who understand my situation. It is not easy, I still have a long way to go but with your help, I can get up in the morning and face the day. Along with my daughter, you are the reason why I continue to be strong, or at least try to. You will be forever in my heart, I love you all.

It has been a year since I have started the “What Happened in” series. I was doing the “Outfit of the Month” that I have stopped because of some problems with my affiliate account. My goal in “What Happened in” is to somehow give you an update with everything that is happening with me. Having an online persona could somehow make one’s voice sound like it is manufactured. It is clear in some of my writing that I don’t like to sound unsure and at the same time, avoid sounding self-conceited. I will always exude an air of confidence that some might find arrogant or cocky. You have to believe in yourself first before making a believer out of anyone, as they say. But anyone who knew me well will say that, while yes, I am confident (sometimes cocky), I am also sincere. I say what I mean and I mean what I say, and friendship is a serious concept for me.

So, to humanize my online persona and stay true to my organic form – The “What Happened in” series is born.

How am I holding up this month of August?

I can’t say that it is all rainbows and sunshine but I can’t say that it is terrible either. I’m quite grateful. Yes, there are dark clouds up ahead but I’m grateful to have friends, both near and afar. As I’ve said in my last post, the things that are holding me together right now are my friends and loved ones.

To be honest, I can feel depression rearing its ugly head these days. The last thing I want right now is to get caught in a vicious cycle of depression and anxiety again. I am already at the edge that yesterday, I refused to eat anything, all because I feel worthless and I don’t deserve it. With only the thoughts of my daughter to snap me out of it. Again, I’m saying this to somehow humanize my persona as Mr. A and not to dupe you into becoming a patron or give a donation. I don’t roll like that, so please bear with me and if ever I am making you uncomfortable, please stop. Your well being is important to me, another thing that I don’t want is to make you anxious and depressed because of me. I will, however, give you a reason to be my patron or donate that doesn’t need a sob story later.

But enough of the negative stuff and on to the positive. As I have said, the glue that holds me together right now, are my friends and family. As well as those outstanding people who never let anything stop them from helping. You are what it means to be human and I will cherish you for the rest of my life.

With that said, I like to say a few words to them.

To Matt, thank you so much. Helen told me about your struggle in the past, and thank you for understanding. I was taken by surprise, to be honest, I didn’t expect it. Helen already helped but that didn’t stop you from also doing it. I appreciate it – thank you to both of you.

To Mrs. Wayfarer, I could still remember in my early days of writing and I came across your blog. How happy I was to find another Filipino blogger and I was lucky that I got to be friends with you. I am thankful. You, along with a few Filipino bloggers are the exemplar Filipino values, I’m so proud of having you as my kababayan.

Please visit Mrs. Wayfarer’s wonderful travel blog, Living Free and Making A Difference.

To Rob, I don’t even know where to begin. Were friends for a very long time along with my daughter’s mom. Despite not reconnecting with you for quite some time, you always did see me as a friend. You never see me as someone who just approached you to ask me for help. Like I said, while yes, I needed the money but, I needed my friends the most. Thank you for understanding.

If you’re looking for an excellent visual designer, please out Rob’s portfolio.

To Nino and Diana, I miss you, bro. We go way back since we were kids. Back then, all we wanted was to be the loudest and fastest band ever, along with Goyong. We did become legends of our own, or at least that’s what I tell myself. I remember like it was yesterday how you asked me to get up on stage and play half-naked as part of my “initiation”. I miss our late afternoon jams and our on-stage fuckery, gah those are good times. Now, I am facing the hardest moment of my life, you are still there as my friend despite the times. Without even asking for any explanations, you lend a helping hand with no questions asked. I cried when you showed me the screengrab of your transfer. I know we are still joking around, but the truth is I cried for having such a good friend like you. We are still brothers in carnage and it is with you and Goyong where my “Roots” are planted. Forever Primate mf! I love you, bro.

Diana, we just met and my friend is lucky to have you! I can tell that you are a wonderful person, wife, and mother. I can’t wait for the day that I could meet you in person. PS. please, pretty please, bili na po kayo ulit ng motor para sa kaibigan ko. (Just kidding)

Please check out Diana’s page where she offers excellent wellness products.

To Susi, I want to thank you for donating. I apologize if it’s taking me so long to reply to your email. You gave me a reason to be strong and face the day. I woke up with hope when I received the notification, I wish you all the love in the world.

I would also like to thank you, Sudrakarma for your donation. It means so much to us. I have read your recent post about your brother. I’m sorry to hear that, I hope you and your family are doing well, hang in there. If you need anything, don’t hesitate to ask – I will see what I can do. You are one of those people that I keep on talking about. Despite dealing with problems of your own, you never let that stop you from helping others. I hope things would turn out great for your brother. By the way, I’ve sent you an email expressing my appreciation. In case you never got them, please inform me so that I could send it again. I have experienced that some of my emails never got through and I apologize for that.

Please check out Susi on I write Her and Sudrakarma’s blog.

To Arcadio, we’ve known each other since the first grade. I don’t know what to say to you, you have always been one of my best friends growing up. I can’t find the right words to say to you how much our friendship means. I’ve come to a lot of our childhood friends for help but it’s you and Neil are the ones who answered my call. I hope someday we could meet again under different circumstances. I love you, bro.

I would also like to thank those people whom I mentioned in my previous posts:

To my readers, If you can’t help then could you check out my friends’ blogs and Youtube channels? They provide great content and they are good people, I would appreciate it.

Now, remember when I said I will give you a reason why you should help out earlier? We will get into that in a little bit but first I want to tell you why am I asking for help in the first place. You see, our house is about to get repossessed by the bank in three months. That means we are about to lose our home if we can’t come up with the money to pay the bank. How much do we owe the bank? A whopping 1.5 million pesos. That’s right, we need to make that amount of money in three months or we will end up in the streets. So, to prevent that from happening, I’ve started a fundraiser campaign to save my mother’s house. While my siblings and I are working hard to earn that money, there’s no way for us to earn that much in a short amount of time. While it would be foolish to rely on donations, we can’t say in honesty that we can do it on our own. That is why I am asking for help.

Now for the part where I give you a reason to spend your hard-earned money on us. Have you noticed the ongoing trend in my post? In every post, I list down every patron and donor who has helped us so far with links to their blogs, business, or Youtube channels. I also post their works on all my social media platforms, especially on Twitter. So, If you are looking to increase your traffic then you could see this as my resume to be your social media manager. To be honest, I hate asking for help – I like to earn by working hard but these days, good work is hard to find. If you could help me now, I would pledge to promote your work or business in this blog for the next three months. Any amount would be appreciated, and I am looking forward to working with you. So, if you got some spare change and want to make the most of it, why not spend it for a good cause and would offer you great value?

I also have GCash and a BPI account for those living in the Philippines, please send me an email to get my details

Another way to help is to become a patron. You could subscribe to my Patreon page and get access to exclusive content you can’t get anywhere else. Take part in Q&A and polls, and you get to decide what content you want me to make. Make requests and get included in the credit section of my post. If you are not convinced, perhaps this testimonial would help you change your mind.

For a barbarian in gentlemen’s clothing, Mr.A is rather accomodating to my requests. He enjoys building relationships via our one-on-one interactions and monthly Q&As. As a patron, I enjoy reading a different perspective that he delivers in response to my topic. Just when I think my suggested topic may be out of range, he’s quite thoughtful and adaptable as he ties it to his interests and experiences. I’m quite inspired by his subtle design elements and creativity. I enjoy voting in his survey polls and learning more about his creative process behind blogging. As he explores and stretches into new terrain, I look forward to seeing what else he has in store!

Please check out my Patreon page for more details.

You could offer me extra work. I started a gig on Fiverr as proofreader and editor, and I’m planning to add more gigs along the way. If you got any suggestions for the kind of extra work you need, please let me know in the comment section. Please check out my Fiverr gig for more details.

  1. Hi Mr.A, first of all thanks for the support. 🙂 🙂 I totally understand that asking for help is not easy, especially when it comes to money. But jus like any other Filipino Families we will do aything for our parents and I admire you for that. I really hope that more people will be more generous and understanding to you and your family. It’s okay to be depress. We have our moments. Just don’t let it consumed you. Get some sunshine and bounce back, this will be over soon. 🙂
