Greetings Barbarians! Long days and pleasant nights!
All work and no play indeed, make “Johnny” a dull boy. We all could agree that a little bit of relaxation could benefit, not only the soul but also the mind. We all need to keep our sanity during times of uncertainty, especially this moment in our history. There is a lot on our collective plate as a species, there are the COVID pandemic and social unrest in all parts of the globe. While Netflix helps, some can’t afford to waste away in front of the screen.
If you have been spending a great deal of time reading my blog, I’m sure you are well aware of my current troubles. We’re about to lose our house in three months, I’m working extra and doing a fundraiser to prevent that from happening. It’s no easy task, especially the fundraiser. I’ll be honest here, asking friends and family, even random people for help can be humiliating. I already accepted the consequence before I started this. But I can’t help but feel hurt whenever someone raises an eyebrow or gives me the “why don’t you get a real job” kind of tone. I mean, I get it, and I completely understand your situation, it just hurts, you know. If I got other places to go, I wouldn’t be here. If I got other means, I wouldn’t ask anyone for anything.
Anyways, sorry for ranting! I hated it when I rant, it makes me feel like a weakling. With that said, I’d like to focus on the positive. Right now, the glue that holds me together, are those souls who never let anything stop them from helping. I’m in awe of the kindness some are capable of.
Since we are on the topic of the fundraiser, I’d like to ask you for a bit of your time. In case you still haven’t heard, we are about to become homeless in three months if we can’t come up with 1.5 million pesos. So to prevent that from ever happening, I started a fundraising campaign to save my mother’s house. I know, times are tough for everyone right now, but if you could help us, I would appreciate it for the rest of my life. While we are working hard to earn the money needed, there is no way for us to make that kind of money in a short amount of time. I know it would be foolish to rely on donations, but we can’t say with confidence that we could do this on our own. So please, if there is anybody out there who could find it in their heart to help, here are the ways how:
You could subscribe to my Patreon page and get access to exclusive content you can’t get anywhere else. Take part in Q&A and polls, and you get to decide what content you want me to make. Make requests and get included in the credit section of my post. If you are not convinced, maybe this testimonial would help you change your mind.
For a barbarian in gentlemen’s clothing, Mr.A is rather accomodating to my requests. He enjoys building relationships via our one-on-one interactions and monthly Q&As. As a patron, I enjoy reading a different perspective that he delivers in response to my topic. Just when I think my suggested topic may be out of range, he’s quite thoughtful and adaptable as he ties it to his interests and experiences. I’m quite inspired by his subtle design elements and creativity. I enjoy voting in his survey polls and learning more about his creative process behind blogging. As he explores and stretches into new terrain, I look forward to seeing what else he has in store!

You could offer me extra work. I started a gig on Fiverr as proofreader and editor, and I’m planning to add more gigs along the way. If you got any suggestions for the kind of extra work you need, please let me know in the comment section. Please check out my Fiverr gig for more details.

But if you are feeling generous and you want to donate some spare change, you could donate via Paypal. Any amount would be of great help to us and we would appreciate it. Please leave your email address so that I could reach you and thank you. I would like to ask if I could do anything for you in return, I would love to repay your kindness.

Lastly, please reblog it or share it on your social media accounts. It would be of great help if I could further my reach. I know this is a daunting task but I’m determined to save my mother’s house.
With that said, I would like to extend my gratitude to a handful of people for supporting me in this ordeal. May more blessings come your way, you are one of a kind. Thank you!

Along with friends, there are a few activities that keep me tethered during these tough times.
Read a Book – the fundraiser took a lot of my schedule. I spend a lot of my time promoting it on social media. I’m also asking some friends and family and explaining to them the situation. I spend a lot of my time writing emails, thanking everyone for their support. Plus my Patreon obligations on top of my blogging schedule, it could get pretty hectic. Yet, I always got a little bit of time, even for at least 30 mins a day to read a book. There is a certain calmness when I’m alone with a book and it always manages to put things in perspective. Right now, I’m reading Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, 48 Laws of Power, and Watchmen.
Reach Out to a Friend – I know, it is a part of doing a fundraiser but I enjoy reaching out to friends. Last night, I came to a great realization that while yes, I needed the money but I needed my friends the most. I enjoy talking to them even if its through chat or emails. I had a great time cracking jokes and having a good laugh with them as well. I enjoy talking to them regardless of the distance between us. Everything seems bearable in the company of good friends.
Listen to Music – Whenever I feel uncertain, I play Hatebreed’s Perseverance and pump out the volume. Whatever your musical taste may be, there is no denying that music can ease the burden. Listen to some Dying Fetus or Taylor Swift, the important thing is you listen to what you enjoy and makes you happy.
Perseverance
Hatebreed, Perseverance
Against all opposition
Crushing all limitations
Pure strength through solitude
Discipline and determination
Meditate – To be honest, I never believed in mediation. I used to think it was nonsense but I learned that it is not about sitting and chanting under a waterfall. It is a way to sync the body and the mind, it is about being aware of every breath and one’s self. It is a way of pondering and re-affirm the self to gain insight and guidance. It’s not a mystical process. I always find the time to meditate for at least 15 minutes before I go out and about my day.
Make your Bed – Making your bed before doing anything else means one less thing to worry about later. Making your bed is already an accomplishment of its own in a time where everything is uncertain.
So there you have it, a few activities that keep the black dog at bay. Keep in mind that these are my way of dealing with uncertainty and these are just my suggestions. Note that I’m not a mental health professional. Understand that there is no single magic cure in dealing with these. Don’t be afraid to seek professional help. I will, however, assure you that I’m with you every step of the way.
To Courage and Freedom!
