How to Keep Your Sanity During Lockdown

Greetings Barbarians, Long days and pleasant nights!

One whole week of quarantine has passed here in our place and it’s starting to bug me. I miss going out, but for now, we have to stay in for the children and elder’s sake. I know times are tough but please bear with it just a little bit, I’m confident that we will all come through. However, I’m still not bored enough to install Tiktok, there’s still plenty of other things to do around the house.

To be honest, the first week of quarantine went by easy. I was smart enough to stock some medical supplies and necessities. Nope, I didn’t hoard anything if that’s what you’re thinking; I just got enough for each of us in the house. It’s not much but we’ll get by, and I hope the situation gets better for everyone.

Speaking of getting better, next month would be this blog’s 2nd anniversary. It has been an awesome journey with you guys, thank you! I wish I could do something special for you guys next month as a way of expressing my absolute gratitude for everything. I am very pleased to announce that I have reached my goal of reaching 3,000 followers and I got you to thank for. Thank you for all the views, likes, comments and subscribe, you sure did make a simple man from a small town feel like he could win at life. This milestone is not only for me but to you as well, thank you for making this happen!

So, how to keep your sanity during this lockdown? Well, I know times are tough for those who are affected. It could get pretty boring when you’re just inside the four walls of your house for days, but fret not, I got you covered. Here are some of my suggestions to entertain yourself during the lockdown and keeping your sanity inside the house:

Do house chores and maintenance

Now would be a great time to keep the house tidy. Before the lockdown, we are all busy with everything that’s been happening in our lives, house chores may seem like more of a hassle. Now that we have all the time in the world, why not spend it doing house chores? That leaky faucet that you’ve been ignoring since last week? Why not fix it? Now is the best time to pick up a broom, do the laundry or clean up the bathroom. If you want help with the schedule, I made one for you.

Daily Chores:

Morning:

  • Make Bed
  • Spray down the bathroom with disinfectant spray, wipe down toilet and sink
  • Do the dishes and wipe down the kitchen sink, counter, and stovetop

Evening:

  • Vacuum or sweep the floor
  • Declutter before going to bed

Weekly:

  • Monday – Dusting
  • Tuesday – Clean the Bathroom
  • Wednesday – Vacuum or sweep then mop the floors
  • Thursday – Clean the mirrors and windows
  • Friday – Clean out the fridge and microwave
  • Saturday – Do the laundry

Do home workouts or bodyweight exercises

If there’s one thing I learn in watching zombie films is that basic physical fitness is paramount. If you’re lucky enough to have a barbell and some plates at home then go for it. Those who don’t now is the time to do bodyweight exercise. Lucky for you, I’ve written about this in the past, feel free to check it here.

Feed your Mind

Now also would be a great time to catch up on your reading habits, read a book or back read your favorite blog posts. I would appreciate it if you back read and comment on some of my earlier posts, like:

Don’t feel like reading? There are countless podcasts and YouTube channels out there like The School of Life or TED

Learn Something Useful

Ever wanted to learn how to cook? Now it is your chance! There are plenty of resources out there that would teach you how to cook, sew, bake, or do woodwork. I love cooking and to be honest, it wasn’t that hard to learn. My favorite place to sharpen up my cooking is a YouTube Channel called “Binging with Babish“. What he does is he takes food from movies and television and recreates it in real life. So if ever you’re wondering what a Krabby Patty from Spongebob Squarepants tastes like, his channel has it. While you’re at it, you might want to check out my spaghetti and meatball recipe here.

Play Games

We love games here in our stronghold, may it be Monopoly, Battleship and of course, Magic: The Gathering. I love playing games with my daughter. I think one of the blessings of this lockdown is we get to spend quality time with our loved ones. You got to learn to see the silver lining.

Catch up to your Favorite Shows, Watch a Movie or Listen to Music

It’s funny that at the end of the day, I still got the time to watch TV or listen to music. Just the other night, I watched Brightburn and Inferno. I also have been catching up on a lot of tv shows and listened to my favorite albums. These are difficult times and a little boost in morale helps. So, go watch the TV and open up a beer or two, you deserve it!

Catch up to your Long-Distance Loved Ones via Video Call

Now is a great time to call your family and friends to see how they are doing. My dad and brother work overseas, my dad is in the US while my little brother is in Canada. It’s hard that every day passes with the virus reigning rampant and I worry for them so much. Now would be a great time to put technology into good use and check on your loved ones. Don’t cause any panic, just see how they are doing. Every moment counts so cherish them.

So there you have it, how to keep your sanity during a lockdown. I hope you find it useful and please stay at home. We’re at war with COVID-19 and let’s all do our part to win.

To Courage and Freedom, and Survival!

  1. Had to laugh 😃 when you talked about zombie films – and the need for physical fitness. My plan is to get on my bike and cycle away from the living dead at top speed, when they finally come over the horizon! Hence I went out earlier this morning on the bike, and worked out a few good routes for the escape.
Thanks for all the tips, really useful

I appreciate you and what you say (write), so congratulations on reaching 3,000 followers. I got a little badge that said 100 and I was so happy. I was happy to have one. Sending love to you and I will say hi to your brother in Canada😁❤️

  5. Mr. A, we will make it through these times. Thankfully, spring weather is offering opportunities to escape my “cabin fever” more often. The weather also reminds me our Lord is in control. God’s peace!

  6. There’s really a lot to do during the lockdown Mr. A. I for one was writing and posting everyday since we had our.lockdown here.

And been doing regularly my yoga and been on workout every day…so i think after the lockdown 2 things will happen
    1. My poetic soul will be well fed and healthy 2. I will finally be more fit than i already am, plus i would be able to master those yoga poses i keep on skipping on regular days..

    1. Wow, great for you.
Well every since the quarantine, it took me little time to finish me write ups. I’m guessing due to the fact that there are no more distractions. I’ve been writing on the balcony and the view is something new.
